Custom Closet Shelving: Wood or Wire?

Custom Closet Shelving: Wood or Wire?

Clients often ask why we use wood in our custom closets, when wire closets can be bought for a cheaper price. Here are three reasons why we recommend wood:
  1. Wood is More Durable. Simply put, wire racks can’t stand up to the same pressures that wood shelving can. If you don’t store anything heavy in your closet and never have the possibility of children climbing on the shelves, then wire might be able to hold your items, but for most people wood is the safest and most durable choice.
  2. Wood Installs More Precisely. If you want a tight, precise fit, you’ll need to go with wood. Wire shelving often leaves small gaps between the rack and the wall of the closet, where small items can get stuck. Also, wire shelves require the use of bolts that tend to loosen in the wall over time.
  3. Wood Looks Better. If you are looking for aesthetically pleasing custom closets, you’ll want to go with wood.  You won’t see items spilling out of drawers, and small items such as undergarments can be contained discreetly. Wood custom closets will usually blend in better with your decor.
"While wire may be cheaper, wood closets definitely have their advantages!"
